Tate App Now Available on the App Store

Submitted by on February 18, 2010 – 11:04 amNo Comment

Tate today announced its Tate App is now available from the App Store. The release of the app coincides with the 10th Unilever Series Commission for Tate Modern’s Turbine Hall and was inspired by the latest large-scale installation to take over the space. The app will offer iPhone and iPod touch users an interactive, immersive interpretation of the epic work How It Is by Polish artist Miroslaw Balka.

Tate has worked with Oscar-nominated production company Nexus and interactive directors Champagne Valentine to create an app that brings the mysterious, dark world of Balka alive and highlights Balka’s inspirations such as black holes, Noah’s Ark and visions of hell. The app allows iPhone and iPod touch users to move around a 3D world using the innovative Multi-Touch user interface and tap to trigger audio and visual content. The app also includes a video interview with the artist and the curator’s commentary on this monumental piece. As an added bonus, there is also a secret game level that is unlocked through GPS when users are near Tate Modern.

The Tate App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.

This is the first in a series of Tate Apps for iPhone and iPod touch launching this year.
