Pro Photographer Sim Game on the iPhone

Photo Shootout, the first-ever professional photography sim game app for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad and now available on the Apple iTunes App store, lets users experience the glamour and thrill of being a pro-photographer. Now on sale for $2.99 (regularly $4.99), the game was developed by Paul Michaels an award-winning fashion photographer to provide live-action in-game assignments, allowing users to edit and sell their photos, and admire their work in the in-game portfolio. Users even earn game-money from their assignments to purchase more pro-camera equipment within the game’s camera store.

Photo Shootout simulates the experience of looking through a pro-photographer’s camera. There are 11 built in assignments to shoot, of gorgeous models in close-up for potential magazine covers, product packaging and models sporting bikinis for advertisements or magazine editorials. Paul Michaels, the app’s designer, based the game on his decades of experience as a fashion and beauty photographer, shooting his first national fashion magazine cover at the age of 19.

With an estimated 110 million digital cameras being sold in 2010, and Apple’s iPhone/iOS device install base over 100 million, there are plenty of consumers who use and enjoy digital photography on a daily basis. “Now anyone can enjoy the fantasy of taking their photography skills to a professional level,” explains Mr. Michaels. “With the iPhone sim game, Photo Shootout, anybody can be a pro photographer – even if it’s only for a few minutes.”

Photo Shootout is all about having fun while shooting photo assignments, but there is also a lot of skill involved in doing it well. A player needs to set the Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO settings correctly within the game and then, they need to take pictures when their subjects’ look their best. A poorly exposed photo or catching a model blinking will score poorly by the in-game Photo Agent. The player needs to study how each subject poses in order to capture magazine cover quality images – and do it all against the clock.
