Apple WebKit Turns 10

WebKit, the Apple developed open source rendering engine inside Safari, Chrome and WebOS is now ten years old.

Webkit, a child of KDE’s KHTML received its first code from Apple on August 24th of 2001. Since then it’s starting to replace Gecko (Mozilla).

Apple didn’t announce Safari until Macworld San Francisco 2003, nearly 15 months later, and WebKit wasn’t fully open-source until June 2005.
