German Shepherd World Now on iPhone

German Shepherd World, (www.germanshepherdworld.org), the top-ranked online community for German Shepherd owners, breeders, trainers, and handlers is now available on the iPhone, Blackberry, Google Nexus and G1, and Nokia smartphones.

The optimized web application automatically detects which mobile device the user has when the site’s URL is entered into the device browser and no downloads are required. The user can then save the site to the home screen or bookmark it for quick future access.

German Shepherd World webmaster Gary Fujioka Sr. said, “The German Shepherd community is active and mobile so we designed this interface with that in mind. They’re with their dogs outdoors, in the field doing search and rescue, competing at various venues across the world, in the kennel.”

During beta testing members logged in from a Schutzhund field near Strausburg, Germany; the Petsmart in East Hartford, Connecticut; the Eukanuba World Classic semi-finals in Bratislava; ringside during the Herding Group at Crufts; from Marymoor Dog Park in Redmond, Washington;from hiking trails in Taylor Head, Nova Scotia and Phoenix, Arizona; from an agility trial on the Barratt Reserve in West Beach, Australia; and from a family dinner in Barcelona, Spain.

The German Shepherd World mobile app has been tested on the Apple iPhone, RIM Blackberry, the Google Nexus device manufactured by HTC, and a majority of Nokia smartphones. Web-capable smartphones represent the fastest growing segment of the mobile device market, and research firm Gartner forecasts 2010 sales of 1.32 billion units worldwide.

In addition to mobile connectivity, the German Shepherd World social network features a full complement of Web 2.0 interactive functionality including member profiles, individual dog profiles, photo and video albums, forums, articles, blogs, live chat, groups, events, polls, news, breed information, and real-time status updates.

German Shepherd World has also a new feature that scrolls thumbnail photos of the members’ dogs across the home page. You can click to enlarge and photo and go to that dog’s profile page. “German Shepherd World has members in over 30 countries now, and you can virtually ‘visit’ their homes and meet their dogs. The site’s proprietary technology makes possible a sense of community that was not possible before”, said Fujioka.

The site’s developers have also released a new toolbar putting all the top German Shepherd related websites just one click away. The toolbar is free, installs automatically in the user’s browser, and is certified virus and spyware free. It can be previewed and installed here: http://GermanShepherdWorld.OurToolbar.com/

German Shepherd World has also scheduled the first in a series of online community chats. Scheduled for Wednesday, February 17 at 6:00 PM PST (GMT -8), the topic is raw feeding and the 60 minute session will be guest hosted by Sheri Marlin, owner of The Complete Canis (http://www.thecompletecanis.com). Future topics including training, tracking, herding, breeding, general care, and health.

To install the German Shepherd World mobile app, navigate to www.germanshepherdworld.org on your device’s browser. The web server will detect your device and load the app. You can save the site to the home screen and a German Shepherd World icon will appear.
